Basic Woodworking: Simple Bench 2W26
In this introductory woodworking class, students will learn how to use and care for the basic hand and power tools used in making wooden furniture. Woodworking is a craft of tolerances: knowing what must be precise and where creativity can flow. Through creating a simple bench, students will balance the functional requirements of the form while also considering the basic elements of sculpture in their design: form, color, and texture. They will learn how to plan their project, mill their wood with the jointer and planer, cut parts to size using the table saw, refine joinery with hand tools, shape parts with the bandsaw, and assemble the bench using drills and dowels. While we will discuss surface treatments like sanding, painting, and finishing, these steps may take place outside of class time.... (Excerpt from Elliot website)
